Nexus One is one of the worst tech fail of 2010

Guess who else made it to CNN’s top ten tech fail of the year 2010? Nexus One. But the question which arises is this, does the first Google branded handset deserve to be in top tech failures list. Before we answer this question, I think it makes sense to determine why CNN chose to include Nexus One in the not so proud list of failures, in which iPhone 4 antennagate leads the sinking ship.
Nexus One’s name was taken because of the unusual sales model (sell online) that Google adopted :

Nexus S received First OTA Update

Only 6 Days after its official release, the Google/Samsung Nexus S has gotten its first OTA (Over-The-Air) Update, which brings the device to version GRH78.

No full changelog available just yet for the 1.9MB Update, but apparently it contains “important bug fixes plus the latest version of Maps” and only makes changes to framework.jar, kernel and Maps.apk.
You can wait patiently for the update to come along. Just dial *#*#checkin#*#* from the dialer and you should get the update notification. Or you can use the manual steps below to install it yourself.

Nexus S is a Weak Phone

Just came across a review posted by Business Insider in which they share their experience of using Nexus S. The final verdict was not that good as you would have sensed from the title of the post. And based on the reasons they gave plus my own take on the phone, I don’t blame them for terming the Gingerbread flagship phone as a weak phone.
Business Insider aren’t impressed by the hardware that Nexus S possesses and had this to say:

Nexus One gets a rooted Gingerbread build with functional apps

Yesterday, we shared with you the news of Nexus One getting a Gingerbread port. If you recall that post completely, the AOSP based Gingerbread port was in its early or should I say basic stage, as it didn’t have functional apps and required you to have hboot verison 35.0017. Well, thinks have just gotten better thanks to XDA Developer MicroMod777, who has posted a Gingerbread AOSP build that is rooted, has the Google Apps and doesn’t have any hboot version requirement.
Here’s the description of the ROM:

Want Gingerbread on Nexus One? Here’s how you can

This was pretty much on the cards was it not, when we shared with you the news of Gingerbread hitting AOSP, or should I say going open source? Here’s what has happened. Google is yet to roll out the OTA Gingerbread update for Nexus One but a smart developer in Chris Soyars has managed to get an AOSP build of Gingerbread up and running on Nexus One. Steps to install Gingerbread on the Nexus S predecessor follow after the break.

Google’s Nexus One Could Hit Verizon Wireless With Some Surprises

Hurry up and wait. That’s what many on the Verizon Wireless network have been forced to do, ever since the Nexus One was announced back in January. Despite the fact the phone has been listed as “Spring 2010″ since day one, that hasn’t stopped people from impatiently waiting the handset’s launch. It looks like Google is sticking to their guns, though, because there hasn’t been much in the form of release date information other than that “Spring 2010″ staring at you.

If rumors are to be believed, it looks like Google is aiming to bring the Nexus One to Verizon with a few surprises in store for future customers. What surprises? We have no idea. According to JKOntheRun, the version for Verizon Wireless will be seeing some extra features that the other versions (which we imagine includes the Sprint model as well, but there might be some reason to speculate on that) don’t have. Hardware wise, that could mean better screens. Or maybe it could lose the trackball, and trade in for that optical trackpad. But, while it’s perfectly possible for that to happen, we’re thinking that it may be more software related.

The reason the Sprint model comes into question, is because that it looks like that model will come out after the Verizon Wireless handset. So, if it is hardware related, that would mean the Sprint model will come out after the updated model for Verizon, and we imagine that would upset quite a few people. Especially if the changes are perceived as being “better” than the current (or future) model(s).

As for the release date of the Nexus One on the Big Red network, rumors have it “any day now.” Considering April is any day now, that would fit nicely with the Spring release. We’ve got reason to believe that it’s definitely coming soon, as we’ve heard the same rumors, and we’ve even seen the phone appear on Google’s Phone Store for the briefest of moments. We’ve included a blurry video of the said evidence, and if you pay attention, you can see that the device is listed as $199.99 — $20 more than what T-Mobile has the device listed as. What do you think these surprises could be? Software or hardware?
